Upgrading indexes. What you need to take into account.
- Indexes are die-cut on the bound, trimmed product opposite the binding edge.
- It is essential that the spine of the book or brochure is absolutely straight, smooth and squared.
- There is a technical difference between Thumb index and Step index!
- The simultaneous printing of grip marks (synonymous with tabs, punching or folding flags) designates the index to be cut out and simplifies production considerably. But: thumb indexes require different preparation than angle-cut, banner or step indexes.
- Adequate trapping around the cut area serves as protection against so-called “blitzer”. These faults are caused by unavoidable differences during folding and cutting where it is sometimes not possible to maintain a uniform level of pressure. Especially in the case of saddle-stitched brochures, it is essential to have accurate flat-binding equipment, a folding technique that allows for the register as well as for adequate draw-in!
- Formats: A4 - A6 (special sizes on request). Block thickness for minimum formats must be agreed!
- Technical equipment: Schomaker are able to die-cut even the largest print numbers on semi-automatic and automatic machines in the shortest possible lead time. You won’t find greater capacities anywhere else in the world.
- Special indexes are also possible at Schomaker, e.g. Panorama or Aladdin indexes, or your personalised index, e.g. incorporating your logo!
